Main Article Content
Abstract
This article explores the methodological potential of using proverbs in teaching English as a foreign language. Proverbs are examined not only as a means of vocabulary enrichment but also as an effective tool for developing students’ communicative, linguistic, and sociocultural competences. The study discusses the theoretical foundations of incorporating proverbs into language instruction and provides practical strategies for their systematic integration into classroom practice.
Special attention is given to the use of proverbs at different stages of a lesson, including warm-up activities, writing tasks, role-plays, group discussions, and cross-cultural comparisons. The article highlights the role of proverbs in teaching figurative language, idiomatic expressions, and grammatical structures within meaningful contexts. The findings indicate that regular use of proverbs in English classes enhances students’ motivation, increases their speaking and writing engagement, and deepens their understanding of cultural values reflected in the language. The paper concludes with methodological recommendations aimed at making proverbs a dynamic, interactive, and pedagogically effective component of language teaching.
